Hello, today I am going to be talking about Raggae wedding songs. You know, most of us, when we think about Reggae music we think of Bob Marley, of course, being the legend of Reggae music. There is so much more that you can play than just Bob Marley. First and foremost, I just want to say that I am not a Reggae wedding music expert. I did rely on DJ Curtis from the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut) and he offered me some tips on Reggae music to play. Now, I am not going to be covering all of the songs I mention on our website, I have a list of 100 songs on the site. I just want to give you an idea of what songs you can incorporate into your wedding day playlist. One good thing about our website is you can also listen to songs as well. As you know, I cannot play the music due to copyright laws (I don’t want to get in trouble for that).

Let’s go ahead and get started with the first song I want to cover today. It is by a super-group called Stick Figure. For those of you who do know Reggae music, you know that Stick Figure should be on this list because they are a super-group in the genre. The first song was released in 2022 and is called “Way Of Life” was also with Slightly Stoopid. Lyrics include…I will carry you to the other side, To another place, to another life, I’ll be there for you every day and night, Gonna bring you right back to the way of life. A pretty romantic song. So, another song that they released this year as well is called “Love Me Easy” with Stick Figure, ANORA, and Walshy Fire with the lyrics…You got the right kind of motion, I will give you devotion, Love me, love me, love me, easy. I think this is a great way to start this list of Reggae songs for your wedding.
The next song on the list is Shenseea & Rvssian with “You’re The One I Love”. Released in 2021, lyrics include…I’ma stay right by your side, Not a thing could change my mind, You are the one I love. The first song from 2020 is by Sean Paul. I do have a lot of Sean Paul songs on this list. This one is with Tove Lo and is called “Calling On Me” with the lyrics…Alright then, True love never fails, love never falls, Real love conquers all (Yeah). The second song, also from 2020, is “Smile” by WizKid feat. H.E.R. This really makes a great background song for cocktail hour or dinner. It just sets a love vibe with lyrics…I love your life, yeah, Love it when you smile, Say, I will do anything for my love, yeah yeah, I will do anything for my love. Next up is a cover of the Lee Brice song “Rumor” by Maoli with the lyrics…There’s a rumor goin’ ’round about me and you, Stirring up our little town, the last week or two, So tell me why you even tryna deny this feeling.

One of my favorite groups in this genre is Michael Franti and Spearheads. This song features Cherine Tanya Anderson called “Say Hey I Love You”, released in 2018. Lyrics include…The more I see, the less I know, But I know one thing I love you (baby girl), I love you, I love you, I love you. Now, Rhianna is on a lot of Reggae song lists and the song I chose is “Pon De Replay”. This is a great dance tune and one that you should really incorporate into your party/dancing part of your wedding. This next song was actually recommended to me by a listener because he had it as his first dance song. The song is by Jah Cure and he did a cover of John Legend’s song “All Of Me”. As you probably remember the lyrics include….You’re my end and my beginning, Even when I lose, I’m winning, Cause I give you all of me, And you give me all of you. “Beautiful” by Seeed, released in 2014 with the lyrics…You saved my life when no one believed, You gave up diamonds for a rolling stone, Now I know what it means to be home. Alaine & Tarrus Riley released “Forever More” in 2012. Lyrics include…Come, let me love, You for life, Oh baby let me love you forever more(yeah), I wanna love you forever more(yeah yeah, yeah yeah).

Starting off the 2000s, “You And Me” by SOJA and Chris Boomer in 2009 with the lyrics…And when this dance is done, You and me are still the only ones, Yes, since time begun, I’m still with you even when you’re gone. Those are pretty romantic lyrics. I mentioned Bob Marley, but Ziggy Marley as well with “I Love You Too” with the lyrics…When you tell me that you love me, This is what I’m gonna say, I love you too, I love you too, I tell you I love you. Another very popular Reggae artist, Beres Hammond, with his song “I Feel Good” from 2008. Lyrics include…Wine some more, show me that love, Unconditionally, Make believe we’re alone, Just you and me. Alaine released a cover of Sade’s song “No Ordinary Love” in 2007, that you could have at your wedding. Love this song. “All My Life” by Marcia Griffiths and DA’Ville in 2006 with the lyrics…And I never really knew how to love, I just hoped somehow I’d see, Asked for a little help from above, and Send that angel down to me. You know I already mentioned Sean Paul so I have to mention his 2005 mega-hit “Temperature”. This is a great dance tune you could have during the dancing part of your reception. We have Beres Hammond again with “There For You” with the lyrics…I’ll be there for you (I’ll be there for you), When you want me to (when you want me to), I’ll come running baby (I’ll come running), Baby, I’ll be right by your side, and as long as the sun shines.

You know, a lot of DJs around the United States like the song “It Wasn’t Me” by Shaggy, but for me, I am not very fond of the lyrics. So if I have to pick a Shaggy song, I always would select “Angel”. It was released in 2001 with the lyrics…Girl, you’re my angel, You’re my darling angel, Closer than my peeps you are to me, baby. Lloyd Brown with “Real Love” from 1997 is a song that I also recommend. One of the songs from 1996, I used to have this cassette single (kind of aging myself), “That Girl” by Maxi Priest featuring Shaggy is another great song you could play for the bouquet toss. Lyrics include…She can make you hot when it’s cold outside, Take you on a high, even make you fly, that girl, ooh, That kind of girl, That’s the kind of lover, that girl. In 1995 this was a really big hit by Diana King called “Shy Guy”.

One of my favorite songs on the entire list is Ini- Kamoze with “Here Comes The Hot Stepper” from 1994. This is a great party song to get everyone out on the dance floor. You could even have it as a garter toss for the groom. This next song is a popular song from the movies, it is a song you can mix in to get everybody singing along, and it is “Boom Shak-A-Lak” by Apache Indian. If you are looking for a more romantic song, then “Baby I Love Your Way” by Big Mountain. It was first released by Peter Frampton. If you are looking for a garter toss song then the theme from Cops, “Bad Boys” by Inner Circle is one that you could play. “I Can See Clearly Now” is one that has been a very popular song throughout the world. You could have it by Jimmy Cliff or by Johnny Nash,

Another popular party dance song, in 1993, is “I Like To Move It” by Reel 2 Real, and also “Informer” by Snow in 1993 is a very popular dance song and remains a great party song to play. One of the biggest wedding songs of all time is “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” by Elvis Presley and UB40 did a cover of this song. It is a very popular love song that you could play. “I Want To Wake Up With You” by Boris Gardiner with the lyrics…I want you to be, The first thing that I see, I wanna wake up with you, And throughout the night, I wanna hold you tight. Now I am going to cover the first Bob Marley song, “One Love/People Get Ready” released in 1984. If you are looking for a song to do the electric slide to, this next song is a very popular group dance song. The “Electric Boogie” by Marica Griffiths from 1983.

Another great UB40 song you could play during cocktail hour, particularly if you are serving wine, is “Red Red Wine”. I cannot leave off “Bam Bam” by Sister Nancy which is a very popular Reggae song. A few more Bob Marley songs you may consider are “Could You Be Loved” and “Is This Love”, with the lyrics…I want to love you and treat you right, I want to love you every day and every night. One of my favorite Bob Marley songs (with the Wailers) is “Three Little Birds” with the lyrics…Singin’: “Don’t worry about a thing, worry about a thing, oh!, Every little thing gonna be all right. Don’t worry!”. Finally, the last song I am going to mention was first released in 1956. It is played at a lot of sporting events but it is still a great sing-along-song or limbo song. It is just one of those songs everybody is going to recognize because of “Day-O”. It is actually known as the “Banana Boat” song by Harry Belafonte.
