What is the cake cutting event?
The cutting of the cake symbolizes the couple’s shared future together as a married couple. This is why each shares a piece of the cake.
The wedding couple cuts the cake, one hand on top of the other, surrounded by friends and family. Tradition says the groom’s right hand must be on top of the bride’s hand but you can do what feels right and comfortable for you. The slice of cake is fed by the groom to the bride first and then the bride to the groom. Same-sex couples can choose to do it in any order they prefer or simultaneously on the count of 3.
How do the bride and groom cut the wedding cake?
The bride places her hand on the cake-cutting knife, and then the groom places his hand over hers as they make two gentle cuts to form a single slice of cake. You then remove the slice onto a plate. The groom proceeds to feed the bride the first bite, followed by the bride feeding the groom.
How long is the cake cutting?
