We rated the top 10 Pop Songs of the 2000s. To qualify, the songs had to be released from January 2000 through December 2009. The term “pop music” means popular or mainstream music. Pop music is commonly heard on the radio, as opposed to cult favorites. In addition, there is no particular referenced genre. Genres include rock, hip hop, and R&B. Can you believe that weddings in the 2000s were filled with these popular songs? Some are time-tested and bring back fond memories.
The Top 10 pop songs were played at many different stages of the wedding from the processional all the way through to the last song at the wedding reception. “I Gotta Feeling” is one of the most popular grand entrance songs from this decade. “I’m Yours” is a popular first dance song for the wedding couple. “Daughters” was one of the more popular songs for the father-daughter dance.
“Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” by far represented everything about a wedding. The song could have been played two or three times during a wedding. “Single Ladies” could have been played for the bouquet toss. “Yeah!” It was a fantastic mainstream dance song to fill dance floors at wedding receptions. 2000s Mainstream Music and Genres
Mainstream charts in the 2000s were all over the place. No one genre dominated. Instead, the charts included R&B, pop-rock, hip-hop, and country-pop artists. The 2K’s were also the dawn of reality TV superstars from American Idol such as country artist Carrie Underwood, pop artists Kelly Clarkson, and rock band Daughtry. America also saw an influx of British female singers like Adele, Duffy, and Amy Winehouse. Other female stars included Avril Lavigne, Pink, Michelle Branch, and ended with Lady Gaga. Hip-Hop dominated the 2000s and became more accepted by mass Americans.
Popular hip-hop artists included 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Eminem, The Black Eyed Peas, and OutKast. Eminem became the best-selling rapper of all time during that decade. Rock moved away from the 1990s grunge to the alt-rock of Nickelback, 3 Doors Down, and Kings Of Leon.

Bubblegum pop became Teen Pop in the 2000s and stayed strong with artists like Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, and Christina Aguilera. There was also a steady flow of boy bands such as the Jonas Brothers and V Factory.
Napster and iPods
The music industry forever changed in the Decade of the 2000s with the widespread use of the Internet. — especially with “sharing” files. Free file transfer sites broke the scene in the late 1990s. As they gained popularity in the early 2000s on Kazaa and Napster, people downloaded music at scale.
Then, the government stepped in, as this activity was highly illegal (copyright infringement). Musicians lost out on royalties and then Apple released their MP3 player — the iPod. With the iPod, Apple also released the iTunes app and store. The general public could now purchase and legally download music right to their computer or mobile players! “A thousand songs in your pocket” and your personal soundtrack played right into the me-centric millennials. Social networking sites such as MySpace helped promote the obscure and unknown into stardom.
Mainstream R&B artists played on many iPods with Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, and Usher. We would say the biggest growth in music from previous years was country-pop from the beginnings of Garth Brooks to nowadays Brad Paisley. Country music is now being more accepted and purchased by the general public with the growing popularity of country-pop artists such as Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, and Shania Twain.
It should also be noted that particular songs of pop and rock stars are now seen as country-pop with Kid Rock, Jewel, and Bon Jovi. Jazz also saw a resurgence in the 2000s with artists like Norah Jones, Michael Bublé, and Diana Krall.
