Welcome to the 78th episode of the Wedding Songs Podcast I am Matt Campbell and today we are going to be talking about Wedding songs from the 2010s. In this newsletter, you will find all the new songs released from the prior month and also some great song ideas. Let’s go ahead and get started with the popular songs of the 2010s. I have these grouped by genre starting off with Rock Songs.
The first one is “Feel It Still” by Portugal The Man released in 2017, and “Handclap” by Fitz & The Tantrums in 2016. We all know the famous lyrics that get everybody to clap…”Cause you don’t even know, I can make your hands clap. “Best Day Of My Life by American Authors, released in 2014. This is a great song that you could play as a recessional song, that is after the “I Do’s”. Lyrics include…No, just don’t wake me now. This is gonna be the best day of my life. Popular dance song, “Shut Up And Dance” by Walk The Moon in 2014. With the lyrics…Just keep your eyes on me. I said you’re holding back, She said shut up and dance with me.
Next up are R&B wedding songs from the 2010s with “Finesse” by Bruno Mars featuring Cardi B. “Can’t Feel My Face” by The Weeknd, in 2015 with the lyrics…I can’t feel my face when I’m with you. But I love it, but I love it. “Love On Top” by Beyonce in 2013 with the lyrics…You’re the one I can always call. When I need to make everything stop. Finally, you put my love on top. This can be played throughout your wedding day, it is very popular. So is her other song “Drunk In Love” with her husband Jay Z, also released in 2013. Make sure you play those two songs if you are a big Beyonce fan. Her recently released Renaissance album also has some great dance tunes on it as well. “Suit And Tie” by Justin Timberlake featuring Jay Z, in 2013, is a great song for the garter toss if you want to have it, or just a tribute to all the men that are in the wedding or reception. Lyrics include…And as long as I’ve got my suit and tie, I’ma leave it all on the floor tonight. The controversial song, “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke featuring Pharrell and T.I. was released in 2013. If this is still really popular in your area it is a great dance tune.
“All Of Me” by John Legend in 2013 is one of the greatest R&B love songs of all time. With the lyrics…You’re my end and my beginnin’. Even when I lose, I’m winnin’. Another great love song, by Miguel, called “Adorn” in 2012, with the lyrics…Let my love adorn you, baby. Don’t you ever
Don’t you let nobody tell you different. A great dance tune by Usher, featuring Pitbull, is “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love”. It was released in 2010 with the lyrics…Gon’ get you right, ‘Cause baby tonight, DJ got us fallin’ in love again. Another one of his famous dance tunes is “OMG” featuring Will.I.Am in 2010. This closes out the R&B.
Next up are the Dance tunes. Starting off with “Something Just Like This” by the Chainsmokers and Coldplay released in 2017. I really love this as a cocktail hour or dinner background song. One of the greatest entrance songs, into the reception, is “This Is What I Came For” by Calvin Harris featuring Rhianna released in 2016. Lyrics include…Baby, this is what you came for,
Lightning strikes every time she moves. Another background song by the Chainsmokers featuring Halsey is “Closer”, in 2016. One of the great party producers is Pitbull and his song “Fireball” featuring John Ryan was released in 2014. And also “Time Of Our Lives” featuring Ne-Yo also in 2014 with the lyrics…I want the time of my life, yeah. Oh baby, ooh give me the time of my life. Omi released “Cheerleader” in 2014. This is a great line dance song but also a great song for weddings. Lyrics include…Oh, I think that I found myself a cheerleader. She is always right there when I need her. Another great EDM dance tune is “Wake Me Up” by Avicci in 2013, with the lyrics…So wake me up when it’s all over. When I’m wiser and I’m older. Pitbull is again on our list with “Timber” but this time Ke$Ha, in 2013. With the great lyrics…You better move, you better dance. Let’s make a night you won’t remember, I’ll be the one you won’t forget. If you are looking for a song for the garter removal, then “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams from 2013.
Another EDM dance tune, by Calvin Harris, is “Feel So Close” in 2012. And, “Titanium” by David Guetta featuring Sia. Released in 2011 with the lyrics…You shoot me down, but I won’t fall, I am titanium. Probably the best dance tune, produced by Jennifer Lopez featuring Pitbull, is “On The Floor” released in 2011. Lyrics include…Live your life and stay young on the floor. Dance the night way. The early 2011s are making a pretty big comeback because this next song has been well overplayed, but still “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO is a great dance tune. Also, their song “Sexy And I Know It” also released in 2011. Give those a shot if you are looking to return to the early 2010s. Pitbull is again on our list, with “Give Me Everything” this time featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack & Nayer, in 2011. Lyrics include…For all we know, we might not get tomorrow, Let’s do it tonight. My favorite dance tune on this whole list is “We Found Love” by Rhianna featuring Calvin Harris. Released in 2011 with the lyrics…It’s the way I’m feeling I just can’t deny, But I’ve gotta let it go. We found love in a hopeless place. Another great dance tune is “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz in 2011, and “Yeah 3X” by Chris Brown in 2010. If you are looking for Latin flair, then “Danza Kuduro” by Don Omar featuring Lucenzo in 2010 (hopefully I didn’t butcher those names too bad). This is a fantastic Latin song with the lyrics…Don’t even fight it, try to deny it. Let the beat take you over, Let ya hair go, drop it below. “Club Can’t Handle Me” by Flo Rida featuring David Guetta in 2010. With the lyrics…Watchin’ you watchin’ me I go all out, The club can’t even handle me right now. There you have it, a few dance tunes to add to your playlist.
Next up is Country songs from the 2010s. Starting up with a line dance, “The Git Up” by Blanco Brown in 2019. If your guests don’t know the line dance, then I would say, stay away from it. Even the next song as well, “Old Town Road (Remix)” by Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus. One of the most popular love songs from the 2010s is “Speechless” by Dan & Shay, from 2018. Lyrics include…‘Cause watchin’ you is all that I can do, I’m speechless. “You Make It Easy” by Jason Aldean in 2018. This is a popular first dance song with the lyrics…You make it easy lovin’ up on you. Make it easy with every little thing you do. Another popular first dance song is “Beautiful Crazy” by Luke Combs in 2018. This was actually his first dance song for his wedding, with the lyrics…Yeah, she’s crazy. But her crazy’s beautiful to me. “In Case You Didn’t Know” by Brent Young in 2017 is a popular ceremony song. Lyrics include…I don’t tell you all the time. You had my heart a long, long time ago, In case you didn’t know. Another popular first dance song is “Heaven” by Kane Brown. Released in 2017 with the lyrics…‘Cause, I don’t know how, I don’t know how, heaven, heaven could be better than this. As a follow-up to this song, the newer song “Worship You” is a great first dance song as well.
Next up, “Body Like A Backroad” by Sam Hunt, in 2017. This was a popular dance song, but also a song you could play to take off the garter belt. Lyrics are…Body like a back road. Drivin’ with my eyes closed. I know every curve like the back of my hand. One of the greatest wedding songs of all time, “From The Ground Up” by Dan & Shay from 2016. With the lyrics…We’ll give all that we have. And we’ll build this love from the ground up. Next up is “Tennessee Whiskey” in 2015 by Chris Stapleton, with the lyrics…You’re as smooth as Tennessee whiskey. You’re as sweet as strawberry wine. So, no this song is not about drinking, amazingly enough. Next is “Die A Happy Man” by Thomas Rhett in 2015, and “I Don’t Dance” by Lee Brice in 2014. This is not a negative song, with the lyrics…‘Cause you took these two left feet, And waltzed away with my heart. In 2013, Hunter Hayes released “Wanted”, and “Cruise” by Florida Georgia Line, I’m going to have it with the Nelly version, in 2012 for the party song. And the love song, “God Gave Me You” by Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani in 2011. Lyrics include…There are no words here left to say, it’s true, God gave me you. Another one of his songs in 2011 is “Honey Bee” is a great cutting of the cake song. If you are looking for a party song in 2011, then Luke Bryan released “Country Girl (Shake It For Me)”. One of my favorite songs that you could play as a recessional song after the “I Dos”, is “Stuck Like Glue” by Sugarland from 2010. With the lyrics…Right back in, right back in, And I know I’m never letting this go. I’m stuck on you. There are the Country songs.
Next up are the Pop wedding songs from the 2010s. Starting off we have “Sucker” by the Jonas Brothers in 2019, for a dance song. With the lyrics…You say the word and I’ll go anywhere blindly. I’m a sucker for you, yeah. Even though they are no longer a couple, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello released “Senorita” in 2019. And the party song “I Like It’ by Cardi B, Bad Bunny, and J. Balvin from 2018. A great song that you could play as a background song, or even as a bouquet toss, is “Girls Like You” by Maroon 5 featuring Cardi B in 2018. Lyrics include…‘Cause girls like you run ’round with guys like me. ‘Til sun down when I come through. Bruno Mars is up next with “That’s What I Like” in 2017, and “Havana” by Camila Cabello featuring Young Thug in 2017. Another song on the list that will stand the test of time, “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran (2017), with the lyrics…Be my girl, I’ll be your man, I see my future in your eyes. Also, his dance tune, “Shape Of You” was released in 2017. Another Latin song to add to your list is “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee in 2017. With the lyrics…Yes, you know I’ve been looking at you for a while I have to dance with you today. Another great intro song, into the reception, is “24K Magic” by Bruno Mars from 2016. A popular first dance song “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur in 2016, with the lyrics…But I wanna stay with you until we’re grey and old. Just say you won’t let go. Of course, everyone knows this next song as a popular dance song. “Can’t Stop The Feeling!” by Justin Timberlake in 2016. A dance tune is “Cheap Thrills” by Sia featuring Sean Paul in 2016. A cutting of the cake song is “Cake By The Ocean” by DNCE in 2015. Just make sure you look at some of the lyrics because it is not about cutting the cake. If you know what I mean.
“Want You To Want Me” by Jason Derulo in 2015 with the lyrics…Girl, you’re the one I want to want me. And if you want me, girl, you got me. Another cutting of the cake song is “Sugar” by Maroon 5 in 2015. You have to make sure you watch the video of this as they crash many weddings in this video. A great duet song from the 2010s is “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” by Meghan Trainor featuring John Legend in 2015. Lyrics include…‘Cause we’ll never know when, when we’ll run out of time. So I’m gonna love you Like I’m gonna lose you. Just for the Pop fans, “All About That Bass” by Megan Trainor released in 2015. Another great wedding song of all time is “Thinking Outloud” by Ed Sheeran in 2014. Lyrics are…I’m thinking out loud. That maybe we found love right where we are. A dance tune to add to your playlist is “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera released in 2015 by “The Voice” judges. This next song has been added to a lot of DO NOT PLAY lists, but may still be one to consider for the right crowd, “Happy” by Pharrell Williams released in 2014. One you have to add is “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift, also in 2014, with…can’t stop, won’t stop grooving, It’s like I got this music in my mind. Saying it’s gonna be alright.
“I Love It” by Icona Pop featuring Charli XCX in 2013. “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen in 2012 was a huge song in the early 2010s that you may want to put back into rotation. A great love song by Jason Mraz is “I Won’t Give Up”, in 2012. With the lyrics…I won’t give up on us. Even if the skies get rough. I’m giving you all my love. Just for the K-Pop fans, “Gangnam Style” by Psy in 2012. From the Twilight series, “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri all the way back from 2011. Lyrics are…I have loved you for a thousand years,
I’ll love you for a thousand more. This is still an extremely popular wedding song and there have been a lot of covers, including The Piano Guys. They have been included into many ceremony playlists. If you are looking for a mid-tempo song, then “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars, released in 2010. Also his song, “Marry You”, but, make sure you listen to the lyrics. It has been on many playlists, but not the perfect wedding-themed song by the lyrics. “Firework” by Katy Perry in 2010 is a great sing-along song. If you are trying to everybody to clink their glasses instead of doing that, you could play “Raise Your Glass” by P!nk in 2010 to get the wedding couple to kiss. Another one of the greatest wedding songs of all time is “Marry Me” by Train. This is one song that is probably on everyone’s playlist. There you have it for the Pop wedding songs.
Next up are the Hip Hop wedding songs of the 2010s. Starting off with the dance craze, “In My Feelings” by Drake in 2018. Another great Latin song “Mi Gente” by J. Balvin & Willy William in 2018. With the lyrics…Look at the rhythm how it has them. I make music that entertains. “One Dance” by Drake featuring Wizkid & Kyla in 2016, and also “Hotline Bling” by Drake in 2015. A very popular “Trap Queen” by Fetty Wap in 2015, is awesome for the crowd. And “My House” by Flo Rida is a great intro song into the reception, with the lyrics…Welcome to my house, Play that music too loud. “Watch Me” by Silento in 2015. “Turn Down For What” by DJ Snake featuring Lil Jon in 2013 is a great party song to play during the dancing. So is “Good Feeling” by Flo Rida from 2012 and his other song “Wild Ones” was also released in 2012. “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Ray Dalton. Released in 2012 with the lyrics…Tonight is the night, we’ll fight ’til it’s over. So we put our hands up, Like the ceiling can’t hold us. And the other popular song by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz, “Thrift Shop”, released in 2012, is a great song to get everybody out of the dance floor.
In 2011 Cali Swag District released “Teach Me How To Dougie” with the lyrics…I make the party shine bright when it start to gloomin’. This beat was bubblegum so I had to chew it. Love those lyrics. In 2011 Nicki Minaj released “Super Bass” which is still a great party song to play. That really closes out our Hip-Hop songs. Next up is just a few songs in multiple genres. Including “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars with the lyrics…Girls hit your hallelujah (wooh). ‘Cause Uptown Funk gon’ give it to you (wooh). A Folk song, by the Lumineers, “Ho Hey” was released in 2012…I belong with you, you belong with me, You’re my sweetheart.
