Welcome to episode number 71 of the wedding songs podcast. I am Matt Campbell. And today I’m gonna be talking about 30 slow dance songs to play at your reception. Now you may be thinking, Hey, yeah, I don’t wanna play slow dances at my reception. I just wanna have a party atmosphere. I wanna be singing my heart out. I wanna be dancing the night away. Well, you have to consider all of your guests at your reception because maybe Grandma Pat wants to dance with her grandson, Zachary, at your reception, or maybe Uncle Frank wants to dance with his niece, Diana, at your reception. You know, there are a lot of great family connections that can happen at your reception. and you can create a lot of memorable moments for your family as well through these slow dances. So, not only think about just yourself in a party atmosphere, there are moments at your reception that you can have by just playing a few more slow dances.

Some of those slow dances were released today, or they were released yester year. So I’m gonna cover these 30 songs by release date with the newer ones first, and then go into the classic songs. Now I don’t have any brand new songs on here because typically the brand new songs are songs that not everybody really knows about or has a connection to.  The first songs that I have on the list were released in 2019 so they’re already about three years old, but these are great love songs. These are great songs that you could play at your reception that will get everybody out on the dance floor and dancing as couples. You could even consider these as anniversary dance songs as well, celebrating the longest married couple at your reception. Before we get started, if you prefer to read the list or listen to the list you can do so on our website, MyWeddingSongs.com, just go to our main menu song ideas and slow dances is right under the main menu. Don’t forget to subscribe to our monthly newsletter that goes out on the last day of the month with all the new songs that were released the prior month that make for great wedding songs.

So let’s go ahead and get started with our first song on the list released in 2019, which is “10,000 Hours” by Dan and Shay and Justin Bieber with the lyrics…If it’s 10,000 hours or the rest of my life, I’m gonna love you. Also in 2019 is “Lover” by Taylor Swift. Now she does have a first dance version of this, which is a little bit slower with the lyrics…Can we always be this close forever and ever, and ah, take me out and take me home forever and ever? The biggest country song of 2019 is “Forever After All” by Luke Combs with the lyrics…other things that I could look at my whole life, a love like that makes a man have second thoughts. Maybe some things last forever after all. In 2018 Calum Scott and Leon Lewis teamed up as a duet for “You Are The Reason” with the lyrics…I climb every mountain and swim every ocean just to be with you. In 2018, Dan + Shay released “Speechless” with the lyrics…You already know that you’re my weakness. After all this time, I’m just as nervous. Every time you walk into the room. In 2018, Leon Bridges released “Beyond” with the lyrics…Will she have my kids? Will she be my wife? She might just be everything and beyond.

In 2017, “Best Part” by H.E.R. featuring Daniel Caesar with the lyrics…I know you’re a star where you go. I follow no matter how far, if life is a movie, oh, you’re the best part. In 2017, Brett Young released “In Case You Didn’t Know” with the lyrics…in case you didn’t know baby, I’m crazy about you. A year earlier, in 2016 Kane Brown released “Heaven” with the lyrics…I swear you’re an angel sent to this world. What did I do right to deserve you, girl? If I had to create a list of country, slow songs to play at a reception, this would definitely be on it. At the top is “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton with the lyrics…You’re as warm as a glass of brandy and honey. I stay stoned on your love all the time. In 2014, Ed Sheeran released “Thinking Out Loud”. No, I don’t have perfect on the list. I think that song is more for first dance songs whereas I think this one’s a little bit better with the lyrics..Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars. Place your hand on my beating heart. I’m thinking out loud that maybe we found love, right where we are.

In 2013 John Legend released “All Of Me” with the lyrics…Give your all to me. I’ll give my all to you. You’re my end. And my beginning. It’s hard to believe it’s already been 11 years since “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perry has been released from the movie Breaking Dawn with the lyrics…I have died every day waiting for you, Darling, don’t be afraid, I have loved you for a thousand years. In 2011, Blake Shelton released “God Gave Me You” with the lyrics…for when I think I’ve lost my way. There are no words here left to say, it’s true. God gave me you. In 2008, Jason Mraz released “I’m Yours” with the lyrics…There’s no need to complicate. Our time is short. This is our fate. I’m yours. If you’re looking for a very soulful raspy song, then “You Are The Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne with the lyrics…You know, I hope and I pray that you believe me when I say this love will never fade away.

In 2004, “Blessed The Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts with the lyrics…This much I know is true, that God blessed the broken road that led me straight to you. Just for the Indie fans, released in 2001 is Ben Folds with his song “The Luckiest”. In 1999, Lone Star with “Amazed” the lyrics include…I’m so in love with you, it just keeps getting better. I want to spend the rest of my life with you by my side. Just for the Rock fans, released in 1998 is “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” by Aerosmith from the Armageddon movie. Lyrics include…I don’t wanna fall asleep cuz I miss you, babe. And I don’t wanna miss a thing. In 1998, just for R&B fans is “All My Life” by K-Ci & Jojo with the lyrics…and all my life I’ve prayed for someone like you. And I thank God that I, that, I finally found you.

In 1994, Seal released  “Kiss From A Rose” with the lyrics…you remain my power, my pleasure, my pain. To me, you’re like a growing addiction that I can’t deny. Just for Classic Rock fans, Eric Clapton released “Wonderful Tonight” with the lyrics…And then she asked me, do you feel alright? And I say, yes, I feel wonderful tonight. In 1971, Al Green released “Let’s Stay Together” with the lyrics…cuz you make me feel so brand new. And I want to spend my life with you. In 1970 we have the song “Your Song” by Elton John with the memorable lyrics…I know it’s not much, but it’s the best that I can do. My gift is my song and this one is for you. In 1965 the Righteous Brothers released “Unchained Melody” with the lyrics…I need your love, I need your love. God speed your love to me.

Now, this next song is a popular father-daughter dance song. So if it’s not selected for that, I highly recommend playing this for R&B fans The Temptations with”My Girl” was released in 1964. Also released in 1964 is Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight” with the lyrics…cuz I love you just the way you look tonight. Released in 1961 is “Can’t Help Falling In Love” by Elvis Presley with the lyrics…Take my hand, take my whole life too, for I can’t help falling in love with you. Now this song has many covers to it. Some of them are very popular, including Kina Grannis that was featured in the movie Crazy Rich Asians. You have Music Travel Loves’ acoustic version and you have Haley Reinhart’s version. There are just a lot of covers to this song. You even have UB 40s cover to this as well in the Reggae genre. So it’s one song that you could check out that you could play many different versions or covers to this song. And finally, the last song we have on the list is “At Last” by Etta James released in 1960 with the lyrics…at last My love has come along. My lonely days are over and life is like a song.
