37 Best Train-themed Songs for a Wedding Playlist

Last Updated: June 12, 2023 | Written by Matthew Campbell (Editor of My Wedding Songs and wedding DJ)

My top train songs are for those who are planning train-themed parties or for those who just love trains as much as we do.

Who doesn’t love the model train that goes under the Christmas tree, or the one that travels around the kid’s room, or the one that is set up in the basement that has a full town scene with people, trees, churches, general store, park with an ice skating rink and much more?

No, it doesn’t need to be Midnight to listen to these songs. No, you don’t need to be crazy either.

You don’t need to be in love too. All you need to be is a person who likes trains as much as we do.

Our train songs are special. Each song below has the word train in the song title.

  1. This list is so, so lame – “Train Train” by Blackfoot isn’t even on your list, it should be in the Top 5, at the very least. There are dozens more that are 10x better than most of the cheese listed here.

    1. Hi GT. You are right, I did forget the Blackfoot song. Please let me know if of any others that come to mind.

  2. The best “train song” in my opinion is the French version of “500 Miles” – J’entends siffle le train”. Back in the mid 60s it was recorded by a female singer but unfortunately I lost my single recording and cannot find her details online. Anyone able to help?

  3. What about Jumping Someone Else’s Train by The Cure or Into You Like a Train by The Psychedelic Furs??

  4. I’d like to add Trains (Porcupine Tree), Train of consequences (Megadeth), Train of Thought (Dream Theater’s album), and Observe the Train (Leprous)

    1. Thanks for the suggestion, Michael. Yes, we missed adding the Cat Stevens song but added it to the list.

  5. Just compiling a similar list.

I’m not going to criticise your top 10 other than suggest Mystery Train should have been in there. At least you gave it a mention

My list (not a top 10) before looking at your site was:

Doobie Bros. – Long Train Runnin
    A-ha – Train Of Thought
    Elvis – Mystery Train
    Ethiopeans – Train To Skaville
Monkees – Last Train To Clarksville
KLF – Last Train To Trancentral
    The Farm – Groovy Train
Ocean Colour Scene – The Day We Caught The Train
Elton John – This Train Don’t Stop
    O’Jays – Love Train
Johnny Cash – Train Of Love
Gladys Knight & The Pips – Midnight Train To Georgia

*They get slightly tenuous from here*….

    Little Eva – The Locomotion
    The Jam – Going Underground
The Jam – Down In The Tubestation At Midnight

*The following do not reference trains in the title but at least some of the song lyrics are about a train ride*….

    Seekers – Morningtown Ride
Simon & Garfunkel – Homeward Bound

    1. Thank you J-Lo for your list. Yes, Mystery Train by Elvis is a classic. We will review your list and definitely add most of theme as they are great songs!

    1. Hi iceman. Yes, there is a song “Next Plane to London” by the Rose Garden in 1967. Was that the song you were thinking of today? We already have the ELO song on the list.
